2024 COURSES:

  • The Book of Daniel with Rabbi David
    Wednesdays: 11 Sep | 13 Nov | 4 Dec

The book of Daniel includes some of the most famous lines and scenes in the Hebrew Bible. We’ve heard of the lion’s den and “the writing’s on the wall”, but how many of us have read the 12 chapter book? Join Rabbi David as we explore life in Babylonian exile, and the twists, turns, plots and prophecies of one of the most fascinating books in the Hebrew Bible.

No Hebrew necessary.

  • Na’aseh v’nishma with Rabbi Helen
    Wednesday 18 September

Understanding our HHD practice: Na’aseh v’nishma - this famous statement in Exodus 24 means ‘we will do and (then) we will hear’.

This was, unusually, our ancient ancestors’ response to being given the commandments, so keen were they to enact the divine will.  And Jewish tradition accords them great merit for their willingness to fulfil mitzvot even before they fully understood them.

But now, especially as we prepare for the High Holy Days, we have a chance to understand BEFORE we do them, whether it be wearing white, fasting on Yom Kippur or why tractate Sukkot describes how the priests in Jerusalem would juggle flaming torches to entertain the population.

This session will make renewed sense of our renewal in the Days of Awe.

  • Poetry for Renewal with Rabbi Matt
    Wednesday 25 September

Join Rabbi Matt on a journey through poetry both ancient and contemporary as we explore the themes of closure, forgiveness and renewal in preparation for the High Holy Days.
